About Maria Kanai
Hi! Here's a bit more about me...
I've loved writing from a young age, finding time to scribble creative fiction whenever and wherever I could (aka the back of my Math homework...). Born and raised in Japan, I attended an international school and moved to Hawai'i to receive a Master’s Degree in Communication from Hawai’i Pacific University with a focus on narrative theory. I also hold BAs in Communication and English from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
I got into journalism during college, becoming the Feature Editor at Ka Leo, UH Manoa's newspaper. I interned and freelanced for various publications throughout school, and in 2015, I officially began my business as a freelance journalist, copywriter and editor.
There are always stories to tell, and I love telling them. During my (rare) spare time, you might catch me making banana bread, collecting books, and going on family hikes with my husband Kevin and my daughter Anna Lily.
